Terps – Cal Start Time Announced

A little football news:

I’m not sure if anyone caught this little nugget; but it appears that the Maryland vs. California non-conference game on September 13th is scheduled to start at 12pm ET.  This is good news for Terp fans as that represents a 9AM start time for the Bears who will hopefully be jet-lagged from their cross-country trip.

Maryland will need every possible advantage to beat a formidable Pac-10 team; so an early kickoff helps.  Look for this game to be a harbinger for the entire season.  A Terp win here; and Maryland could be a special team.  It will also give Maryland instant national credibility.

I love the idea of a home and home series with a Pac-10 foe.  I think that the Terps should pursue more games like this as it will increase our recognition nationwide.

  1. I know this is a football thread but STOP THE FREAKING PRESS WE GOT B-BALL DRAMA!

Just when you thought you’d heard it all, Gus Gilchrist’s status is being reviewed. Evidently some people are trying to get him to leave UMD. Someone (his handlers maybe, friends from around the way, players at another school who knows) has gotten his ear/into his head. I really don’t know how this will play out. Word is Gary is meeting with Gus and his peeps tonight about this thing. All this has popped up in the past couple of hours. I’ve got emails/calls into every media guy in Balto-Wash that I have a relationship with that covers the Terps. Their general vibe is to keep our fingers crossed.

  2. DBR, that is a four-alarm fire. If that is true, I don’t know what to say. I wonder if Gilchrist’s VA peeps are to blame. I’m wonder if that Bob Lipper article had something to do with it.

  3. “Gus Gilchrist is gone”. That’s the email I just got.

  4. Is that confirming the worst?

  5. GILCHRIST GRANTED RELEASE

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland athletic department announced today
that Augustus Gilchrist (Temple Hills, Md./Progressive Christian) has been granted a transfer release from the men’s basketball program.

Gilchrist enrolled at Maryland in January 2008. The ACC sit-out rule for Gus Gilchrist will expire the last day of Fall 2008 exams. Subsequent to that time, Gus would have been able to compete for Maryland in all remaining regular-season games, the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.

“Gus has asked for a release to explore other options which may allow him to play more games at another university outside the ACC, pending an NCAA waiver,” said Head Coach Gary Williams.

“I would like to thank Coach Williams and the basketball staff at Maryland for all of their support and attempts in appealing this process,” said Gilchrist. “I wish them the best in the future.”

The release allows Gilchrist the opportunity to transfer to another NCAA school.

  6. Well, as I said in another thread; it could be late June before we know what the Terps 2008-09 roster will be. I may now want to amend that to it may be Oct. 15th before we know.

  7. It might be less stressful if we all just do not read anymore Terps news until MM and see who we can scrape off the bottom of the barrel to fill in our empty slots…..

  8. Guess that JuCo big man with the surgically repaired ACL will be offered a ’ship as soon as he gets off the plane this week.

  9. The hell with him. If he doesn’t want to play with us, we don’t want him. He would just would cause problems for years to come, if we did not satisfy him
